Here I am working on the final edits for my book!
Hello,
I hope your summer has been peaceful and fun, albeit different from what many of us had planned. I know many of us have had more downtime than we planned, or have dealt with challenges we had not expected… but I have been extremely impressed to see how people are embracing these chances to grow with strength and grace.
One way I’ve been staying connected to others more during this unique time is through social media and livestream events like the ones I recently did for 92Y and WikiHow. It’s kind of funny because I personally used to really shy away from social media since I like to keep my screen time low, and I was always afraid that social media would somehow decrease the need/desire to interact in person, if we were all just “getting our fix” of interaction online. However, I’ve finally come around to see that social media can actually be a GREAT way to stay in touch and share updates in ways that ENHANCE our connections… especially as we are all spread out more geographically and/or practicing physical distancing! But even when the pandemic is over, I personally think I’ll continue being more active online– I’ve been connecting with people all over the world on a daily basis, and it feels good to be able to stay in touch.
Please feel free to reply and let me know how your summer has been so far! I would also love your input on my new web page, www.drchloe.com/book. I’m super excited that Nervous Energy: Harness the Gift of Anxiety for Success is now available for pre-order. If you do pre-order it, please be sure to let me know so I can include you in a special list of people to thank personally with some special goodies =) Pre-orders are important to me because they’ll show my publisher that my audience really is excited to read my book, plus they inspire me to work on things like video courses and potentially a private masterclass or book club for people who want to get into the material! If you order the book through me directly on /book, I’ll know automatically of course. If you order it through Amazon or some other retailer, please forward your confirmation email to books@drchloe.com so I can be sure to thank you!
Warmly,

Dr. Chloe Carmichael PhD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
PS If you love the newsletter or see an article or video here that you think would help a friend, please feel free to forward this to them– it’s an easy way to show someone you’re thinking of them, and of course I always appreciate the chance to share with people who want fresh ideas!
SO THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT, ALONG WITH MY TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM, MY FACEBOOK PAGE IS NOW VERIFIED!

QUOTES ON RELATIONSHIPS, ANXIETY, & STRESS
![]() Do you have a legit fear of being alone? One of my quotes: “If you’re alone right now, don’t spin that into a fear [that you’re] always going to be alone,… Remember that—by definition—every other single person in the world has also not yet met their life partner.”
| ![]() Why we’re obsessed with reading bad news — and how to break the ‘doomscrolling’ habit One of my quotes: “Many people use social media to get as many eyeballs on their content as possible, so they might be prone to post extreme headlines or scenarios to create a sense of urgency… This can create a distorted picture of what’s actually happening in the world.”
| ![]() The one that got away: Getting back with your ex and making it work One of my quotes: “It’s perfectly normal and okay to have old wounds, but you need to be able to talk about them calmly and respectfully together to avoid an unhealthy cycle of criticism.”

DR. CHLOE FOR WIKIHOW
How to Cope With Being a Social Outcast Being a social outcast can be difficult, especially for children and teenagers. Lots of people go through a period of being on the social fringe; in fact, your experience is the stuff of some of the most poignant literature and movies ever created. Being ostracized is not your fault. Take heart in the knowledge that this time in your life will pass, and it gets better. In the meantime, there are things you can do to cope with social exclusion.
| How to Reduce Anxiety Associated with Social Media Addiction Social media can be a great platform for keeping in touch with friends and networking with potential professional collaborators. For individuals with social media addiction, though, any social media account can be a source of great anxiety. Feeling like your life is boring or inadequate and fearing that you’re missing out on something exciting are common experiences for individuals with social media addiction. If you have social media addiction, you can break out of your online cycle by combating the symptoms of your anxiety and reducing or altogether eliminating your social media usage.
| How to Motivate Yourself when Depressed Dealing with depression is difficult and frustrating, but there is hope. Better days will eventually come along. In the meantime, you can motivate yourself to get through your day or work toward a goal. Getting motivated may not be easy, but you can do it. Making tiny changes in your day can help you start to build momentum and keep yourself motivated.
