When I started my practice in 2012 just after getting my license, I had clear goals: I wanted a private pay office with full fee, high functioning clients. Like many therapists, however, I had one question:

How was I going to find the right clients?

Thankfully, I had a head start. I was able to earn my licensing hours at an employee assistance program for Fortune 500 companies. I was learning about what types of people are able to afford private pay therapy and how to attract, book and retain them. I was basically working as a concierge, matching high functioning people with the right therapists.

What I learned through watching clients reject some therapists, and clamor to see others, was essential when starting my own practice. By applying what I learned from this experience, I was able to rapidly grow my business! I was totally booked in just 6 weeks. I had so many clients, I was able to expand my business and hire other therapists for my practice. I even started getting calls to be featured on national television and in print media, despite having zero relationships in media at all at the time  (my main expertise is of course as a clinical psychologist)!

Now, I’m sharing what I learned in the hopes of helping you build a successful practice, too!
